Wait a minute, why aren’t those frets straight?
Come and learn what all the fuss is about with ‘wiggly frets’ and why Steve Vai, Mattias IA Eklundh, Per Nilsson, and Plini are using them. No, you are not seeing things—these frets are bent this way for a reason, and changing how people see the guitar.
As we all know, the guitar is an imperfect instrument that relies on math to function—specifically, the “Rule of 18” (as it’s known in the luthier community). Remco Mayer will explain what scale length is, how and why it works, and the approach True Temperament (TT) uses to improve intonation between strings and frets.
3pm Dave Leslie (Baby Animals) in coversation with Australian Musician
